Forensic Pathologists review medical records on a daily basis and are adept at reading between the lines and identifying errors of omission as well as commission. They are knowledgeable in the terminology used by many different medical specialties as well as being aware of the most common therapeutic errors.
A thorough review of medical records will often provide information ignored by specialists/clinicians. Review includes comparing physician notes, nursing notes, therapist notes, radiology reports, laboratory reports and even social service notes to identify potential discrepancies. Many reviewers are not comfortable outside their restricted areas but Dr. Bonnell, as a Forensic Pathologist, is used to reviewing such records and reports. He also is able to interpret anesthesia records as a result of specialized training in that area in medical school.
